I bought this for an 11 month old, knowing it may be too advanced. I isn't. She was fascinated with the remote and caught on quickly to one button making it go backwards and one forward. She likes the music and, although she doesn't show a lot of interest in discipline with regard to using the shapes for their intended purpose, she is very content to chew on them and toss them or shove them in the nose that opens and closes. It bobbles and sings as it moves and the little lights flash. I think this was the most liked on Christmas morning. It's a great toy. Just spend a few minutes with them teaching them how to get the most fun out of it...its easy to use.

I bought this for my son on his second birthday. It was a hit! He loved the remote control and it was easy for him to use. We have tried other remote control cars for him and they seem to zoom so fast it frustrated him, this one moves nice and slow and he can use the two buttons to move forward or reverse very easily. The songs are fun and familiar. The shape sorting part is nice too, and the toy will ask for the shapes and the colors so the learning part of this toy is great too. I paid [...] for this item at Costco in October of 2009. I reccommend this toy and I know your toddler will love it too!

This toy is confusing for a small child. First, the nose of the toy turns it on, press it again, and its a second type of game.

The sound quality is awful. It sounds like they used a child to record the audio. The kid must have had cookies in his mouth when he made the audio recordings. There is no volume and no OFF switch!

"Hi! Im countingmahcookie jar" "Lets play a game.." " Can you fiiiiind the number.." "(other voice) SEVEN?".

If the kid puts in the correct cookie - too fast, it reads it wrong and then tells them did it wrong.

Then it keeps pestering the child after they walk away.

Honestly I have dreams of running this toy over or blowing it up with an M80.

I would never buy this again. My son got it as a gift. It's awful.

I am an early childhood educator. We got this toy for my 2 year old who knows most of his numbers 1-10 but still needs more practice. The cookie jar will ask him someting like, "Can you put the number 10 in the cookie jar?" Then he would correctly place the number "10" inside, and the cookie jar would reply with- "Oops, sorry, that's the number 1. Please try again." This happened mulitple times in the first five minutes he played with it. THE TOY ONLY SERVED TO CONFUSE MY TODDLER. Please do not leave your child alone with this toy or he/she will learn all the WRONG numbers! This is a cheaply made product that does not work correctly. Another negative is that it has no OFF button. So, the cookie jar will continue talking until it shuts off automatically or you take out a battery. Very annoying. We will be taking this toy back immediately. We are very disapointed.

I bought this for my son when he was 2 years old. He is now almost three, and plays with this toy very rarely (not even once a month). I expected that the toy would work differently than it does. Each cookie has a number on one side and correlating candy chips on the other side. The side with the number has a raised circle. The circle gets wider as the number gets higher (the number 10 cookie has the widest circle). When you place the cookie in the jar a lever inside the jar is pushed a certain distance, depending on how wide the circle is. That is how the jar 'reads' what number cookie your child is putting into the jar. The only problem is, when my son puts in a cookie too quickly, the jar thinks it is a different number. The toy plays in two modes. For the first mode, your child can put cookies randomly into the jar and it counts the cookies, up to 10. In the second mode, the toy asks you for a certain number. For example, if it asks for number 3, your child would put in the number 3 cookie. However if they put it in too quickly the toy will say they put in number 2. It is confusing to my son. He put in the correct number, but the jar misread the cookie. It has a pretty cute voice, not too annoying. It does not have a shut-off switch, so we hear it occassionally talking by itself. If the toy was designed better, it would be a great learning toy. I would not purchase this toy again.

Being a lover of sudoku, I was looking forward with great anticipation to be able to have a board game I could leave set out.

How disappointing to find it was useless for playing any puzzle medium level or higher. There needs to be at least 3x as many

mini tiles. I am having to resort to using pencil and paper. I have another sudoku board game that was given to me that had pieces missing

so I thought with the mini tiles from that game I would be OK even though other reviews said there needed to be more tiles. Well, 162 tiles is not enough for the

harder puzzles. Guess I will just stick to my nintendo DS sudoku

I received this for Christmas, and have played 9 or 10 of the included puzzles. I've enjoyed it, and find that it's frequently easier for me to solve the difficult puzzles in this media than it was using pencil and paper.

Up until today, I haven't had any issues with running out of the "guessing" blocks (a common complaint in several other reviews), since I try to fill in only the known values until I get most of the puzzle solved. Today, however, I was playing puzzle 95 and due to the fact that that particular puzzle has multiple valid solutions, I quickly ran out of the "guessing" blocks as well. Ideally, Sudoku puzzles should have a unique solution -- if multiple answers are valid for the same space, the board simply isn't sufficient for solving the puzzle. The problem is not with the board though -- it's with the puzzle's designer.

So, if one of the first 10 puzzles I attempted suffers from this problem, I suspect others will also.

My advice to those who are playing the included puzzles -- if one seems particularly challenging, use an online sudoku logic checker to determine if the puzzle actually has a singular solution and/or if it can be solved without guessing.

My husband and I looked at all the so called toddler "computers" on the market. Those things with the 2x2 screen and not much else? We decided to save our money. Then going through a Costco in JAPAN of all places, we ran across this item. IT'S FABULOUS (and yes it was in English though we were in Japan)! It has 30 "games" that cover all areas of reading, writing, comprehension, math, and even mock "email" so they understand the workings of a real PC. My oldest son--he was 2 1/2 when we bought it--figured out pretty fast which codes were associated with his favorite games. He also figured out the Help button would give the right answer if he didn't know. :) Now every time he sees the letter A he says, "A. Airplane!", because that's the word association the computer makes. We ordered our second one from Amazon because our younger boy was always wanting to play with it too. We may have to get a third when our daughter hits toddlerhood! I was disappointed that Amazon didn't offer free shipping with this item. But it's still worth getting. LOVE IT!!

Big Screen Free Cell has many good features, two of it's best features are that the card numbers are large enough to read and it is lighted so I can play it in bed, in the dark. I ordered this for Christmas, hoping it would be something my nearly 6 year old could do. There are basically no reviews out there so I felt like I was taking a chance so I thought I would leave a review to help others with their decision.

Initially when I played the game through the box I thought there was no way my son could play this. He cannot read more than the basics yet. Judging from the disk on the front, the game appeared to require reading. I decided to investigate further - this is a gift, I didn't want to break into it if I didn't have to but I felt it was necessary. After flipping through the 'disks', there is a huge selection of different topics that span over a large age range. A 5 year old could play this with some help but overall I would think this is more useful for a child who is fairly good at reading. There are a couple of disks that are appropriate for the younger group, like color recognition, shapes, & some puzzle-like discs but most are geared towards a 3rd or 4th grader.

I was surprised to see that the electronic game itself is extremely simple. The game flashes a group of lights that correspond with items on the bottom edge of the disk. Then the light will stop on one of the 8 spots & you are supposed to input the correct answer. You use a spinning wheel to adjust the number that you find on the main body of the disk. For example, one of the disks has flags on it. It shows the names of 8 countries along the bottom & the light stops on one, then you look to the flags & decide which one the lighted country name matches & then you input the corresponding number. The electronic game itself doesn't say anything more than a few words, it isn't specific to each disk at all, it is just the canned answers each time you answer a question right or wrong. It 'knows' what disc you are using because you input that in in the beginning, again using the spinning wheel on the left of the game but that is as far as the interaction goes - that was a bit of a disappointment.

Overall, I think my son will enjoy it but I was originally a bit put-off by the way it worked. I expected the electronic aspect to be more advanced, especially since the game is pretty expensive. I think if I would have known what I know now, I might not have ordered it. But the educational value is very high once my son can play this independently. Although it has 35 disks, they only have 8 'questions' each & so t will have a limited play-life unless I buy more of the disks that so far I cannot locate more than one set of Mathematic set (for $14 or so).

The item does work well & the disks appear to be fairly sturdy. They pack nicely in the back of the game. It would make for a great travel activity or game as it does allow for up to 2 players.

So, to summarize - works well, portable, simple concept but educational game/toy for a target age of probably 7-10. Some limits to play for the little kids & limited by the amount of available disks. I think my son will enjoy this but I wonder how many other children would play this instead of their Gameboys or Xboxes - it might just be too simple for the typical plugged-in kids??

Sometimes it gets caught in a stutter and you have to remove the batteries (using a screwdriver) to get it to stop. It rarely recognizes the coins correctly. Most of the time a penny reads as a quarter. Quarters often read as dimes or pennies. IT'S WORTHLESS IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO LEARN TO RECOGNIZE AND COUNT CHANGE! I thought the first one was defective, until I returned it and the second one was just as bad. Overall the product is made out of cheap brittle plastic that if given a chance would likely break within a week under normal use.

In short. It's annoying, it doesn't work, it's cheaply made and will just end up taking space in a landfill. DO NOT BUY!

I got this "Toy" for a friend of mine who always seemed to have an enormous amount of change Floating about her house, I was thrilled with the shinny chrome plastic piggy and was sure she would love that it keeps a running total for her. DRAWBACK- every time you put money in it "talks" announcing what the change is called and then the total "Nickel, 5 cents" then keeps talking asking to be feed for a few minutes---- and there is no way to turn that talking part off, I guess a kid might like to be encouraged to go and raid the house to feed its hungry chrome piggy but for an adult its just a bit ANNOYING. My Friend says its not that bad and you get use to it asking for money, she is just thrilled that her husband has taken to depositing all his change there everyday with a goal of a vacation.

With a description like "Glitter pink" I would assume there would be some sparkles in the color. The pink color shown also looks like a darker pink-not so...we received a plain old pastel pink pig. The bank is also VERY inconsistent in recognizing coins. Not a good teaching tool! I would not recommend this at all. I bought this for my 9 year old because she wanted to be able to see how much money she was saving. Let me start by explaining how this product works... It has a narrow slot that will adjust size based on what coin you put in and the bank tells you what coin it is and how much it is worth. The display will then give you a running total of how much is in the bank. I was disappointed when we started putting money in the slot because #1 it is hard to get the coins in the slot and #2 the bank is constantly misreading the coin. We put in a quarter and it said it was a nickel, put in a penny and it said it was a dime. Completely defeats the purpose of why I bought it but my daughter thinks it is cute.

The pig is cute, is pretty good at deciding what change my daughter puts in (confuses pennies and dimes on occasion), but you can manually adjust the balance if needed and it is easy to get the coins out and comes with a replacement "stopper" in case one gets lost.

However, you should know that this thing talks in an ultra-annoying voice that you turn off or down. It is loud and frequent. Because my daughter loved it I eventually went to work with a screwdriver and muted the pig. Seems to me you should have an on/off switch for the voice of any toy.

The numbers are huge, the lighting is also better than other handhelds I've had but if you accidentally switch it off, your game would be lost. I carry a large clttered handbag. When I rush out in the morning, I drop the game in it. There have been many times when I save the game only to come back to it and see that the button was switched to off. First of all, I want to say that these guys didsn't waste any time gettting this item out to me, so props to them for that.

I am not a fanatic Sudoku fan, but I play two to three times a week. It is a good way to eat up a couple of hours on a plane or when waiting for someone. I had a free Sudoku game unit that IBM gave me as swag at a conference, and I decieded to upgrade to something more challenging that had a backlight.

On the plus side, this has two million games built into it. It is very intuitive and easy to use. It is a touch screen, so there is no need for any buttons at all other than on/off and lighted mode. You basically click on the space you want to enter a number into and then pick one of the numbers on the bottom of the screen. It is very simple and fun to do. There are only a couple of commands onthe screen - pause, silence, and a few others, so the screen is not cluttered at all and it is easy to concentrate on the game.

The minus side - it is housed in cheap plastic. I almost feel stupid carrying it around; it looks like it has been designed for a six year old. The sliding switches (2 total) are a little difficult to move because they are recessed at a weird angle. The stylus... well, I'll leave that for you to look at. It feels like a small plastic pool stick. Weird.

The most annoying thing, however, is the lighting. When backlit, the numbers are difficult to see (if not impossible) unless held at the right angle. You have about 20 degrees of freedom. When working on a difficult game, you will find yourself moving it from anlge to angle in order to look at all the numbers properly. However, the backlighting is bright and its a small price to pay for a touchscreen game with 2 million puzzles.

I hope this helps. I don't love it, but for the price I am satisfied. I guess if you're willing to spend $80 or so you can get a better unit, but I am going to keep this one.

I ordered this game for my 7 year old, because she always was asking to play my regular Sudoku hand-held game, but it was too hard for her to do. She loves this game and has got it figured out after just a few times with me helping her and explaining how to figure out the correct answers. The only problem that we have had so far is that if you make a mistake the game starts flashing that you have a duplicate number in a row/column, and will not let you change it. You can hit undo, but if it is the other one that is the problem you have to undo all the way back to the time that you entered that number. Once the numbers start flashing you cannot type over them to correct the error. We have found it easiest to just start a new game when this happens, and it is a let down because there have been a few games where she was down to just 3 numbers to have it completed and because two numbers were flipped, we couldn't correct them. All-in-all a fun game but frustrating if a mistake is made and you can't fix it, without undoing everything.

Of course, there is no way to annotate candidate numbers, so you have to get your mind working a little differently when solving puzzles on the machine (great exercise for the brain!). The gadget's workings are easy to master; there is really no learning curve, but if there is any doubt the very concise one-page manual is there to help. Overall, I like it.

The puzzles do vary in difficulty, and I think all are solvable without guessing. There have only been a couple I haven't been able to get, out of over 100 that I've done. (It has about 900 puzzles.)

The touch screen works well with the stylus. The holder for the stylus works pretty well too; I actually haven't lost it and it's been a year. I've been careful not to scratch the screen. It's just plastic, but recessed. I don't know if it would hold up in a rougher environment.

There is no backlight, so this means you need a point light source to be able to see the screen clearly. As in sunlight or a lamp. On the other hand, I've been using the unit for over a year with the same batteries.

There is no indication (like an underline) of which numbers were the initial clues. So backing out mistakes is more difficult. I've used another unit that let you mark a cell as a guess. Excalibur makes a more deluxe (and expensive) version of the unit, but I haven't checked if it has these kinds of features.

For the number of puzzles, price, and long battery life this unit is a good entry-level electronic version of the game.

The main problem is the screen: too small, invisible if the light hits it the wrong way, which it always does, graphics that make Pong look like 3-D animation. As luck would have it I got an email from Pat the next day apologizing for the delay and saying they had shipped a replacement via FedEx. I told him I'd returned the game but he said not to worry about it and to keep the replacement. Good thing I returned the thing because the "replacement" went to someplace in Kansas... I'm in Idaho. I would never pay $135 for a Mega Illuminated Sudoku game. It isn't worth that MUCH! You can buy the regular size illuminated for about $13.00. Also there are places to find the Mega at much better prices. I'm not sure who these people think they are, but I wouldn't even pay $30 for it. Never pay over $20 for Sudoku. It's a great game, but you can find the handheld out there for a good price.

It has had no wierd functioning problems; when the buttons don't seem to do the pause or input , it is time to change the batteries! mine has worked very well and i have tried them all! i even refuse to use the other 3 kinds that i own. this one is perfect. i can use it at night, i can turn off the sound, and it has the biggest screen that i have seen which is nice when one is older. One review said that they did not like the fact that it was awkward trying to input all number options before one knew what the number was and altho i agree, that is just how it is with the electronic games, one gets used to it! i would much rather use this and not the books with the pencil and the light. this comes with its own light and stylus and it is easy to just grab it at night and play it till your eyes get bleary and then go to sleep.. mine worked fine after a couple years but the screen got a little scratched from abuse and i misplaced it... i can't get to sleep without this toy.! I had to but another one! Definately the best one that i have tried on the market.

I own 3 handheld electronic sudoku games. This one is by far the best in regards to the game. The other two can have multiple answers on a game. I have never found that to be the case with this game. The biggest draw back is that the keys are not very sensitive. You have to push very hard and often multiple times to get a response. This is very frustrating- and forget trying to get an accurate solve time (maybe divide it in half due to the keypad difficulties!)

First, this device is only a crossword game, no other thing. With this in mind, I must make some advices about the overall design of it.

1. Light is not working. Well, defective unit.... Ok. I live in Spain. Not easy or cheap to send back to repair this fault. Ok. No light.

2. Screen brights too much, reflects light as a mirror, so.... if you don't use light (I must suppose) it's impossible to read nothing. Contrast control is available, but not helps in this situation.

3. It's huge. Thick as a cheap device, no other thing. But it works well.

In the game view, I must admit, my English is not perfect, far to be... but.... clues are very cryptic, short and difficult to get it for a non-English person. I don't mention it as a fault, only as an advice for other non-English speak persons that, like me, want a device to practice language.

I will buy it again? Perhaps.

Regardless of age or skill, the "Excalibur NY21" has been a welcome addition to our family. Although originally intended for my father, a real crossword enthusiast, other members of our family have also started playing it as well. Different skill levels and the ability to cheat make things much easier for novice and younger players. The carrying case makes it ideal for road trips and the built-in light allows for play in the dark. My sole complaint would be that the light only helps when it is completely dark, it doesn't seem to provide much assistance when it is just partially dark during the waning evening hours.

The product served its purpose, I used for a long trip and it kept my mind occupied. The puzzles are right out of newspaper, there are really easy puzzles to mind boggling hard. The keyboard was too small, which made it difficult to do the puzzle in a timly manner.

The product is in the closet now, but the next long trip I take without a newspaper, I will bring it along.

Overall not what I expected but it do serve the purpose that I bought it for.

It definitely took me a good three minutes to figure out

exactly how to change levels.

One of the reviews below me had it right the first three steps.

Although, I found that after you're asked if you want to leave

the puzzle and select "Y" then you are taken to

a screen that tells you to CHOOSE LEVEL and you can either (-) or (+)

the level number, the highest level being 10.

Overall not too bad. I just kinda wanted something fancier.

It gets the job done and despite the irreversible battery saving back

light it really is what you buy, a Ken Ken handheld game. You play ken ken.

If I had read the reviews of the game before purchasing it I might not have but I didn't and I did so I was stuck to on how to get to a bigger grid too. I called the customer support number on the package and got this hint. It worked and I'm now extremely happy with the product (I do use my DS Lite stylus). I figure that if I want to drop back down to a small grid I can always use the reset button. Hope this helps someone:

Hint to move to a bigger grid size:

1. While you are in a game touch "DONE"

2. "LEAVE PUZZLE" will appear on the screen

3. Touch "Y"

4. The game shows a new puzzle.

a. If this is a puzzle you want to try then start playing.

b. If you want a different puzzle, then you must repeat steps 1,2 and 3.

If you follow the steps outlined you will get to larger puzzles. You may have to exit out 20-30 times but eventually you will hit a larger puzzle.

I bought this game several years ago. Its useful if you like Sudoku and need to kill some time. I find that the numbers are easy to see if you're using the unit indoors, and also using the backlight. Of course, I bought this two years ago when I turned 40, so to help out a little I also use reading glasses when I'm doing the puzzle.

When you add it all up, its a fun way to play Sudoku without having to screw around with writing little numbers in boxes, then constantly erasing them as you rule things out. I mean that's okay at the beach, but who wants eraser debris on your bed if you're solving the puzzles at night?

All in all, I can give a strong recommendation for indoor - especially nighttime use.

My daughter knows how much I love playing Sudoku, and bought the best electronic game she could find as my Christmas gift - very sturdy, beautiful leather case, etc. But playing the game on this electronic device is very difficult. The background is always visible, which makes seeing the numbers extremely difficult. The numbers appear in block form, with the number "1" at the extreme far right of the screen,touching the number in the next square. I'm sure there are many great features on this particular device that I never tried, but reading the numbers seemed most important, and that just isn't easy. My recommendation - stick with pencil and paper.

With this expensive one, you cannot pause...the unit "goes to sleep" after 3 minutes, you cannot put in a "let's see if this number will work" number, you cannot tell by looking at the screen what numbers are given and what numbers you have input.

Figuring out how to use this is also a long process.

In order to navigate you had to move in a grid, you couldn't just point to a square. The game also made noise independently, without being in use, and while OFF. I give it a two, because it has nice options for levels, and a simple to use design.

It works as advertised but the screen is still hard to read. With the back light on it's better but the numbers are broken up enough that it's sometimes hard to tell a 8 from a 3 for example. Using reading glasses help but not much. I bought this to use while traveling and if your moving around much as when traveling in a car, the screen is just to small to maintain focus. The varying intensities of light when riding down the road play off the highly reflective screen enough to drive you crazy. Sitting at home in the easy chair, it works fine. Using it is a challenge the first time so make sure you read the instructions and keep them handy.

I don't find anything special about this product.

I was aware of the absence of a back light before I purchased this item but thought I would give it a try since it was so inexpensive. I wish someone would make a larger game face for those with visual difficulties. Overall, this game is a great value for the money.

Love Sudoko, and happy to see this product, it has good feature like can make mark there with extra pen. But, compare to other Sudoko, it's a little complicated for basic function. So, buy it, but not use it, leave it in the car and wait for another time to figure it out.

The past few years i have had 4-5 different type of sudoku games but so far this one is the best.(and the cheapest too)The magic pen is a big help ,i would not imagine.Very simple to handle and durable.100% satisfiction.

My husband and I really enjoy the challenge of this sudoku. This was a replacement for one that wore out after several years of much use! We like the large screen, individual keys for each number, and the ability to take it with us as we travel, etc. I was glad to find the Big Screen Sudoku still available.
